Quarterly Newsletter

Volume I - March 31, 2017

The Dillon Jaycees and Jaycee Auxiliary have had a wonderful first quarter in 2017!  Here is a recap of what we have been busy doing so far:

In January, we started off the year with our annual Installation Banquet at the Lion’s Den.  2016 President, Jack Bergeson, recognized fellow members with awards for their work and dedication to the Jaycees throughout the year.  He also swore in our 2017 President, Matt Allen.  Matt then welcome our newest members to the group by swearing them, and our board of directors, into their new roles for 2017.  Charis Harrison was named 2017 President of the Jaycee Auxiliary.

JM Peck and Kelly Graham got our Little Skiers program off to a great start.  This year we had over 160 kids participate in the program (a record for us) and purchased more equipment.  Every Saturday through mid-February, two school busses and our enclosed trailer headed to Maverick Mountain for a fun day on the hill.  Mother Nature provided lots of great snow and comfortable temperatures, and we ended the season with plenty of powder still on the hills.  Participants who rented equipment from the Dillon Jaycees got to keep it for the ski season, but will need to return it to the Jaycee building on Wednesday, April 5 starting at 6pm.

Also in January, Will Hampton started our Little Shooters program, two evenings each week in the basement of City Hall.  We had a great group of kids join, 37 in all.  We updated our scoring cards to a computerized scoring program and purchased new guns.  The kids have shown great enthusiasm and improved their shot through the program.  One team of Little Shooters will be going to the state competition in Laurel, MT April 8-9.

February started off with the Pink Zone Bras for a Cause Dinner and Auction hosted by the women of our Dillon Jaycee Auxiliary at the Beaverhead Golf Course.  For the third year in a row, members of the Jaycees participated in the chilly Polar Plunge to benefit Youth Connections.  We also established two scholarships that are available to students who graduate from high school within Beaverhead County and who are enrolled into an accredited university, college, or trade school.  Little Skiers ended and Little Shooters continued into March.

We started March off with a very successful 38th Annual Middle School Wrestling Tournament, where we hosted over 200 wrestlers from across the state.  Later in the month, we recognized two men within our community at our Distinguished Service and Outstanding Young Man Banquet on March 24 at the University of Montana Western.  Tye Ellis was named the 2017 Outstanding Young Man, and Kevin Engellant received the 2017 Distinguished Service Award for their commitment to various activities within the Dillon community.  Finally, we wrapped up March by sending our rodeo board members to support the 49th Rodeo Banquet at University of Montana Western.
